How To React To New Christians

A couple of months ago, the internet was in an uproar over Kanye West’s proclamation of his faith. Mr. West professed his Christianity to the world and the world had a lot to say about it. Many people, Christians, and non-Christians alike. Some rejoiced over Kanye’s newfound faith. Others voiced their skepticism.

Just like everything else, the Bible tells us exactly how all Christians should have responded to this situation.

Colossians 1:3-6 (ESV)

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth,

In this passage, Paul was speaking to new believers in Colosse. Instead of being skeptical about their conversion, wondering if it is real or a show, Paul encouraged them.

A couple of verses down, Paul continues to encourage them.

Colossians 1:9-14 (ESV)

“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks[d] to the Father, who has qualified you[e] to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

So the next time you hear of someone coming to God, rather than question if their conversion is real or not, pray for them. Pray that they continue to grow in their walk with God. Encourage them to continue to learn more about what God has for them, and expects of them.

I know this article is short, but I wanted to be sure the point was clear. We are not to sit back and judge whether or not we think someone’s faith is real or not. Paul shows us that we are to pray for them and help them grow their faith.

I hope this article has helped you in some way. If it has, please share it with someone. That is the best gift you can give us. To read more articles about faith, click here. Thank you for reading and God bless!
