A Firm Foundation In Christ To Weather The Storm

While most new homeowners are concerned with a house’s appearance, they often do not think about the house’s foundation. In reality, a home’s foundation is a very important aspect of the home. Foundations are the structural integrity of a house. It carries the weight of the home and is able to protect the house from termites and even floods by lifting the home off of the ground.

The foundation of a home also helps keep it together during a storm. Without a strong foundation, a house can be more susceptible to falling in a storm. Like a house, we also need a firm foundation.

In Luke 6:47-49 Jesus says:

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

All aspects of our lives are built on foundations. We build a foundation of trust with people. Our households are built on a foundation of love. We even build foundations based on respect. Those foundations are all very important. But the most important foundation we build needs to be built on the Word of Jesus Christ. The Bible refers to God as our rock in multiple places. Like in Psalms 18:2, 78:35, 62:7, just to name a few!

Psalms 18:31

For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God?

The foundation of our life must be built on the rock that is our Lord. When we do this we are able to weather the storms that come in life. Sometimes the storms of life may cause us to shake or make even leave us with a few scars. However, with our foundation built on the Word of God, we will be able to remain standing strong. Allowing us to prepare for the next storm that may come our way.

In Luke 6:47 Jesus tells us how we are to build this foundation.

He says we must not only hear the things that He says but do them. We need to not only hear what Jesus taught but put His teachings into action.  Actions show that we have not only heard the teachings. But that we believe it is true and that we have taken it to heart.

Once we have built a firm foundation on Jesus and His teachings. We no longer have to worry when we see a storm on the horizon. We can find peace in the fact that our Rock will support us and we will not fall like we did before.

So the question we have for today is.

How will you fair the next time a storm comes your way? Will your foundation hold you up? Or will you fall under the pressure?

If you feel like you need to build your foundation or maybe fill in some cracks. I would recommend reading through Luke to learn the teachings of Jesus. And praying that you will be able to receive those teachings in your heart and put them into action.
