About a year ago I made a decision to only listen to Christian music. Well, I guess I should say I made a decision to try to only listen to Christian music. Since music is literally everywhere you go it is hard to say that you are no longer going to listen to secular music. However, I have been able to very well with this goal and I personally feel great for doing it.
While I have many reasons for not wanting to listen to secular music, I would have to say the main one is that I do not want to allow the things that I do not personally agree with in my head. It seems to me that more and more music sings about things that I do not do, and really have no interest in doing. For instance, I do not go to clubs or drink, but it seems that tons of songs are about mainly those things.
I also made this decision because listening to only Christian music allows me to bring God into my daily life and take him with me wherever I go. It is nice that no matter what is going on, or where I am when I turn on music I am reminded that I am loved by God and that He is always there for me.
I cannot say that it has been easy to stay away from other types of music though. If you have ever listened to any Christian stations, you know that they tend to play the same songs….a lot! Most of the songs also seem to sound the same after a while.
However, I have also found a solution to this issue as well. With a little digging, you can find quite a few apps that stream many different genres of Christian music. Some apps like Pandora will let you create a station from a Christian song or band but then will play some secular music so that is worth watching out for.
The app that I use the most would have to be the Amazon Music app. It allows you to stream a lot of music for free if you are a prime member. It also allows you to make your own playlists and download songs for offline listening. I use a lot of the pre-made playlist that they have because they are full of great songs and new songs are added all the time!
If you want to grow more in your walk with God and you want to tune out some of the things of the world, I really recommend you try to only listen to Christian music. Even if you only do it for a short period of time, I believe that it can make a big impact on your life. If you are interested in the other apps I use to stream Christian music (many of which are free) or if you are curious about some of the genres I have found, please let me know! What a great decision. To take it a step farther, we’ve also become keenly aware of Christian songs that aren’t in line with Biblical truth. What an eye-opener!
Another option that I’ve been wanting to try is podcasts by theologians. Do you have any favorites?
I have looked into some, but I have had trouble finding podcasts that talk about theology. Most I have been able to find are the audio versions of sermons. Some of those are really great and fun to listen to, but it is hard to find the time to listen to them because I do not want to take long pauses and lose track of what they are preaching about. I have recently started listening to The Wally Show Podcast which is the daily podcast from the Way FM radio station. They usually release two new episodes a day one that is made from the radio show and an after cast just for the podcast listeners. This podcast is great because they cover a wide range of topics and everything is looked at through a Christian world view. If you find any please let us know and we will be sure to check them out. Thank you so much for your comment!
