Why You Need A Minivan Even If You Don’t Want One

Okay, hear me out! When we found out that I was pregnant, Justin went to work on trying to convince me we needed a minivan. I was HIGHLY against it. At the time I was driving our Mustang and he was driving our Dodge Ram 1500.

We knew that in order to get a newer reliable vehicle, we would need to trade the Mustang in so that we could forego having a monthly payment. Since I was going to be the one driving the new vehicle 90% of the time, I wanted an SUV. It was the only reasonable choice for me. Especially since I was giving up the Mustang.

Sadly, I eventually lost the battle and we got a minivan. Justin’s argument was persuasive enough for me to cave in. I knew that the van was the reasonable choice but what 20-something wants to go from a Mustang to a Minivan? Let’s be real.

Ease of Entry

One of the best things about the van is how easy it is to put the carseat in. With our particular van, I don’t even have to touch the door to open the back doors. With the simple click of a button on my keys, I can open not only the back doors but also the trunk and I can start the van. Remote start was an absolute must for me. It was one of the requirements I had for any vehicle we got. We had it on the Mustang and it spoiled me. There was no going back.

Not only is it super easy to open and close the doors with the keys, but it is also super beneficial that the doors slide. I never have to worry about hitting another vehicle with the door. Let alone worry if I’ll be able to open the door wide enough to get the carseat in or out. With an SUV you constantly have to worry about being able to open the doors. Or worrying about if the doors will hit the car next to us.

Not only that, but it’s also really easy to get into. Unlike the Mustang, which was super low and you basically had to climb in and out of, a van is super easy to get into which makes a huge difference when you’re nine months pregnant.

Lots of Space

Another great thing about a minivan is there is so much storage! When you fold the second and third rows down my 6’6” husband can lay down and stretch out in the back and still have a little room to spare. What about when the seats are up? I am so happy you asked!

The middle row of seats has floorboard storage compartments that they fold into. So that means when the seats are in their upright position, that storage compartment is open for use. All this storage is great! Under our middle row, we currently have two lawn chairs, a first aid kit, and some other random items. You’d never know it though!

The storage doesn’t stop there. Under cup holder upfront there is a drawer that pulls out to to reveal two more cup holders and a drawer large enough to fit a rectangle tissue box with room to spare. In front of the cup holder under the dash there’s another storage area that’s accessible from both the driver and passenger sides. The list goes on and one! Those are just a few of my favorite storage features.

So Many Seats

Another great thing about a minivan is there is room for everyone! Not too long after we got our van, we took a family trip to Georgia. During that trip, we frequently had 7 people in it to drive around town. Not just that but they fit comfortably! That is saying something because other than our baby, I was the shortest person on the trip. The second shortest is about 5’10”.

Not only did we fit all 7 of us in the van comfortably but everyone had an easy time getting in and out of the vehicle. There was not squeezing behind a tiny opening or folding down a seat to get to the third row. With so many seats, you will have room enough for anyone and everyone. You almost never have to worry about if you have enough room for people to ride with you.

Thank You For Reading

Thank you so much for reading! I hope this article helped you to realize that even though the idea of a minivan may repulse you as much as it did me, it is a great vehicle. If you have kids, this is such a great option! I protested so much on getting the van but I can’t imagine trying to tote my tot around in anything else.
