Take Action In Your Faith

We know that our faith has the ability to move mountains. The Bible tells us this in Matthew 17:20. Having the faith to move the mountains is at times only half of what you need. Faith often requires action. We cannot sit aside and believe in our hearts alone that things will happen. We need to take action and show that we believe through what we do. The Bible is full of accounts of people who had great faith. Many of them had faith to take action. We need to learn from these accounts and began to show our faith by what we do.

The Woman With The Issue of Blood

Mark 5:24-34

The woman with the issue of blood sees Jesus walking past her in a large crowd. She knows that if she can just touch the hem of his robe she would be healed. The woman fights her way through the crowd and is able to reach him. She touches his robe and is instantly healed of her illness. Simultaneously Jesus feels healing power leave his body. He turns around to see who it was in the large crowd that touched him. The disciples answer him in a manner that almost sounds like they say “come on you can not be serious. Look at the people who could’ve touched you”. The woman who was healed fell to her knees in front of Jesus and admitted to touching him. Jesus then tells her that her faith has made her whole and that her suffering is over.

While many people were likely bumping or brushing up against Jesus, they had no other motive besides being close to him. This woman had the faith to not only believe she could be healed. She had faith to take the next step and reach out to Jesus to get her healing. We can have faith all day long but that won’t always change our situation. At times we need to have the faith to reach out to God. By reaching out to God we are proving our faith to God.

The Faith of a Roman Officer

Luke 7:2-10

The Romain officer was not someone you would ever expect to have faith in Jesus. Especially in that time. In the time that this event took place it was uncommon for outsiders to hold beliefs in the God of the Jews. Just like the woman with the issue of blood the Roman officer did not just sit by idle in his faith.

He sent people to find Jesus and request for him to come back to his home to heal his servant. Before Jesus could make it to his home he sent more men to give Jesus a message. This message proved the man’s faith even more. It showed that not only did he have faith in Jesus’s ability to heal. It showed that he believed Jesus had the power to control everything. When Jesus heard this he honors the man’s faith and heals the servant.

Healing a Paralyzed Man

Mark 2:2-12

The four men bringing this man to Jesus do not just prove their faith once, but twice. They know in their hearts that Jesus could heal this man. To get the healing they were looking for they decided to bring the man to Jesus. When they arrived the house was already crowded and they knew that they would not be able to get through the door. However, they did not stop there but took their faith further. The climbed on to the roof and lowered the man down into the house. Jesus saw the faith these men had and forgave the man of his sins. That alone is a blessing, but the story does not end there. Jesus then uses the man to prove that he truly has authority over sin and commands the man to stand up and walk. This is what the people who brought the man to Jesus believed would be possible.

The Common Theme

Faith links the lives of all these people together. They all knew that Jesus was the answer to their problems. None of them waited for Jesus to find them in there problem. Each one reached out from their problem in an attempted to grab a hold of Jesus. The faith required to reach out is the same faith that Jesus says could move mountains in Matthew 17:20.

We could all learn from these three accounts. Many of us have faith in Jesus and know that he can do anything. However, we often sit on the sidelines and wait for Jesus to make the play. Instead of watching for Jesus, we need to attempt to get close to Jesus and even grab a hold of his garment. To do this is simple. We need to spend time in prayer, communicating with our Lord. We can even take it further by fasting. Fasting allows us to present a sign of our faith, by denying our flesh.

Going forward in life I hope you will remember the great acts of faith these people did. Look at the blessing they revived for just going that little bit further in their faith. So next time you are waiting on a miracle from God, show an outward sign of your faith. Just maybe that is what it is taking to receive your blessing.
