Family doesn’t have to only be those you share blood with. Sometimes family can be people who connect with you and determine to stick with you through all of life’s adventures. Amanda has been there during many of my big life changes. I mean, we went to college together. We had the same major. We graduated together. Interned together. I was with her when she met the man of her dreams. I stood beside her when she said “I do”. She gave me advice when this crazy guy named Justin determined to insert himself into my life. She stood beside me when I said my I Do’s.
I met Amanda about 10 years ago. She was my first friend at First Apostolic Church of Maryville. Not long after I started attending church there, I started working at the daycare. Amanda also worked at the daycare and we ended up on the same shift. We instantly clicked and were best friends from the start. We liked the same music, we like the same clothes, and liked the same books.
From that point up until Amanda ditched me for Blake (more about that to come) we were thick as thieves. I spent as much time at her house as I did my own. To this day, her family still claims me as one of their own. That’s what’s great about a true friendship. They become family. Now real quick about the Blake thing. Blake is Amanda’s husband. When they got married, she moved to Middle Tennessee where he grew up. Over the years, Blake has grown to be like a brother to me. I mean, we sure fight like siblings. All in good fun though.
Proverbs 27:9 says “..a sweet friend refreshes the soul” (MSG). Friendship is extremely important in life. Everyone needs a friend. Justin is not only my wonderful, loving, handsome husband but he is also my best friend. But before there was Justin, there was Amanda. Don’t worry, Amanda is still my best friend too. Justin just joined the party and became my main man.
If you do not have a best friend, I highly suggest you become one to someone. Proverbs 18:24 says “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”. The people who join your life, and stick around for the good and the bad are the ones that make life’s moments memorable. Sometimes life’s circumstances call for you to extend your family to those outside of your blood relatives.
