Money Saving Tips!

There are many different reasons people look for ways to save money. For us, it’s mostly about being able to save money where we can. So that we have room in our budget for fun things. We love to go on adventures. A good bit of those adventures, take place last minute. Not leaving a lot of room for saving up for it. By saving money where we can, we are able to take those last minute adventures.

Do Not Eat Out

This one is a huge money saving option for us. If we let ourselves, we would stop for food almost every time we are out and about. We would easily spend over $100 a week on eating. This is partly because we’d “treat” ourselves with full meals. So that $15 here and $20 there, really added up once we’d have a nice sit-down dinner on Saturdays.

By cutting out this expense, we have been able to save that $100 a week. We’d always grocery shop as if we’d planned for every meal at the house and had food for snacks so there was no reason for us to eat out.

Shop At Aldi

For us, this has been another great money-saving option for us. We tried shopping at Walmart, Food City, and Kroger. The cheapest we’d gotten out of there with just the essentials and maybe one snack, was $80 for one week’s worth of food. Now by shopping at Aldi, our weekly essentials and a good handful of snacks/treats only cost us $50! That means we are saving $30 a week plus getting more for way less!

Do Not Window Shop

I don’t know about you, but window shopping for me rarely stays just window shopping. Especially when window shopping with Justin. One of us always sees something we want and the other says “Okay, you can have it!”. And the next thing we know, we’ve spent $50. So the best way to not spend money unnecessarily is not to go window shopping. Even if it’s to look for things you know you will need later on.

Justin and I have a trip coming up near the end of the year that we’ll need some new winter clothing for. In an effort to not spend money before we have to, we have opted to not shop for those things yet. If we went out shopping for them now, we’d buy something before we really needed to.

Save All Your Change

Justin and I try to only use cash as much as possible. This is partly to keep us from spending money unnecessarily. It is also partly because when we use cash, we save all of our change and all of the ones from when we break larger bills. You wouldn’t think this adds up as quickly as it does! From the change Justin had saved up while we were dating and engaged, we paid for my wedding dress. We’d stopped doing this for a little while after we got married but picked it up again at the start of this year. By doing this we were able to save over $100 in just a few months.

Make a Budget And Stick To It

Though this is listed last in my list, this should be the first thing you do when trying to save money. Look at everything you are spending money on. You’d be amazed at all the money you are spending that you think is nothing that ends up being large amounts. By setting up a budget, we realized just how much we were overspending on unnecessary things. Setting up the budget showed us how much we should be spending versus what we were actually spending. It is a GREAT eye-opener for anyone wanting to start saving money.

Thank you for reading!

The most important thing to remember when trying to save money is to find what works for you! Different things work for different people. For us, couponing just doesn’t seem to get us anywhere. For others though, this is an amazing option that saves them a ton of money. Try different things and find what fits your lifestyle the best. Then stick to that.
