If you’ve been keeping up with this blog for a little bit now, you know that we visited Tampa earlier this year. We had a wonderful time! If you’ve never been to Tampa, I highly suggest going! There are tons of things to do! We were there a week but that still was not enough time to see and do everything Tampa offers. I want to take this time to share a few things that we didn’t get to enjoy on our visit but are definitely on our list for our next visit.

1. Henry B. Plant Museum

This museum is housed in the 1891 Tampa Bay Hotel. The Hotel was a Victorian railroad resort that defined the elegant frontier and now is a National Historic Landmark. Unlike most museums, it is not dedicated to lifestyles of the past. This museum contains the actual furnishings enjoyed by the first guests to visit. The Museum accurately reflects the opulence of the turn-of-the-century America and the vision of the American transportation pioneer, Henry B. Plant. Tickets for admission to the museum range from $5-$10. They also offer group rates for groups of 10 or more.

2. The Tampa Bay History Center

The Tampa Bay History Center houses three floors of permanent and temporary exhibition galleries focusing on 12,000 years of Florida’s history. It is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and a Smithsonian Affiliate museum. The History Center begins with a look at Florida’s first people. People who inhabited the peninsula long ago. It also covers the arrival of European explorers in the 1500s. The center also covers Tampa Bay’s modern role as a port city, an industrial capital of west-central Florida, and a draw for tourists and visitors the world over. The History Center tells the story of Tampa Bay’s and Florida’s history, heritage and culture. Tickets to this attraction are free for children and range from $10.95 to $14.95 for youth to seniors.

3. The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts

This museum dedicated to exhibiting important photographic art. FMoPA collects, preserves, and exhibits historic and contemporary works by nationally and internationally known photographic artists.  It also enriches the community by operating outreach programs to educate children and adults. Admission to the museum ranges from $8 to $10.

4. The Dali Museum

This museum devoted to Salvador Dali. It features a large collection of his work. They also regularly change exhibits on artists that are similar or connected to Dali. Previous exhibits include ones on Escher, Picasso and Da Vinci. This museum is a little more expensive than the others. Admission ranges from free for children under 5 years of age to $24 for adults. If you are a fan of art though, this definitely seems to be a must-see.
