If you read this post, you know I am an avid fisherman. I try to spend as much time on the water as possible. While I always enjoy fishing, nothing is worse than going out and not catching any fish. Which I sadly have to admit has happened to me quite a few time over the years. However, after using tons of different lures, I have found a lure that seems to catch fish every time I go.
The lure I am referring to is the Strike King Bitsy Minnow. This is just a micro size crankbait that is offered in many colors and is super easy to use. I have found that almost every color they sell catches fish. Personally, though, I prefer to use the bright perch or bluegill patterns. My wife usually likes to pick out her own and picks whatever she likes the look of and it always catches fish no matter the pattern.
The best thing about this lure is how simple it is to use. All you need is a basic spinning rod and reel. It is best to use line under 10 pounds and a rod that a medium or light action. With that line size and rod strength, you will be able to make long casts. This ultimately will increase your number of catches since the lure will be in the water longer.
This lure does not require any special retrieval style. All you have to do is cast the lure out and reel is straight back in. If you use it for a while and do not catch fish you may want to change the speed of your retrieve. My wife was even able to catch more fish than me just the other day by using this lure. This is a rare occurrence because she only fishes about 1/4 of the time we are out usually. She tends to prefer to explore the water in her kayak or read rather than fish. In my defense though, I had made the mistake of only bringing one spinning rod with us on that day.
If you want to go fishing and only catch largemouth bass then this is probably not the best lure for you. Using this lure we have caught largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, perch, and even catfish. I personally just enjoy catching fish so this lure is a definite favorite of mine.
While many companies make small crankbaits similar to this I have found that this one seems to work the best out of the ones I have used. It is also very high quality and they last forever. Which is why they are my go-to for presents for my father, who is also an avid fisherman. We just have a bad tendency of losing them to the trees so I am always buying more. They tend to be a little expensive but I think they are totally worth it.
I have also found other lures that seem to always catch fish like curly tail grubs, johnson beetle spins, rooster tails, and many others. These lures are awesome and are great to have in the tackle box, but I have found that they do not catch the same amount or even size of fish as the bitsy minnow does. If you have not tried this lure yet, I definitely think you need to. It is a great addition to any tackle box.
