Halloween is fast approaching and that means everyone is rushing out to get their pumpkins. I mean, what’s Halloween without decorating pumpkins? Now decorating pumpkins has evolved into so much more than just carving faced into a pumpkin. Now you can paint them, mod podge them, put stickers on them, stack them for even bigger displays. The possibilities are endless!

Whether you prefer using a real pumpkin or are open to the fake ones. There is no limit to what you can do to make your pumpkin all that you ever dreamed! To go over as many different ways to decorate a pumpkin as possible. I’d like to break them up into a few different categories. Some of the ideas may overlap a little and fit into multiple categories.

Carving

This classic option may seem a little daunting to those of us who are not artistically gifted. Thankfully now you can buy pumpkin carving kits at the store to help with this. People are also now using power tools to drill holes in the pumpkins for a unique take on the traditional carved pumpkin. Check out these super fun carved pumpkins!

Painting

Again, the possibilities are endless! Some of my favorite painted pumpkins have been the little pumpkins painted like donuts. I mean how cute is that? You could even go simple and paint the whole pumpkin a fun color and write “Happy Halloween” on it. Love stripes? Good news! You can paint stripes on your pumpkin too! Or polka dots or flowers. You can even cover your whole pumpkin in glitter! If you’re wanting to keep it simple and want it to carry over to Thanksgiving, you can do handprints of all your family members.

Not Your Average Pumpkin

This category is for all those pumpkin decorating ideas that make you say “What? That’s a pumpkin? No way!”. Some of my favorites from this are the gumball machine, a Thanksgiving Turkey, Minions, a porcupine, I’ve even seen an Olof! With this category, there is literally nothing you can turn a pumpkin into. Dollywood had taken the prize on those though with their Great Pumpkin LumiNights displays.
