Recently at church I watched as the sick and hurting members of the congregation came forward to be prayed for by the elders of the church. As I sat there I noticed the scars that some carried, the people with cancer, those who left the altar with tears in their eyes. All people almost begging God to heal them from their ailment. My heart hurt for those people. I started to pray that all those people would be healed. At that moment a thought started to circle around my head. Just because you are not healed here does not mean that your healing will not come, just hold on until the end. The choir then began to sing The Cross Has The Final Word.
The Bible tells us that when we die we will receive new bodies, bodies removed from sin, bodies without sickness and scars. 2 Corinthians 5:1 says:
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (KJV)
In this verse the house it refers to is referring to is our body. We will trade in our earthly body for a perfect body created by God. This new body will be created outside of sin and will not have to suffer like the body we are in now. When sin entered the world in the Garden of Eden, sickness and pain came with it.
Knowing that one day we will receive new bodies and those bodies will not be plagued with the issues our earthly bodies have faced does not mean we should not continue to pray for healing on earth. Philippians 4:6 tells us we are not to be anxious, but instead to pray and be thankful, letting our request be known to God.
We just need to remember that the healing we are praying for may not come in this life. Instead, be reserved for the next life. It may be hard to remember this in times of great pain and suffering, but if we stay strong and keep our faith in God we can find peace. Hopefully, this can lead us to express the joy that Paul does in 1 Corinthians 15:57:
But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. (NLT)
As I said at the beginning of this, the choir singing The Cross Has The Final Word. It made an impact on me at that moment because we often seem to forget that the event that took place on the cross has forever changed the way we as believers view life and death. The song says:
There’s nothing stronger, nothing higher
Nothing greater than the name of Jesus
Nothing is able to overcome Jesus not even death. Death is no longer the end, death for the Christian is just the beginning of a life more abundant than we can ever imagine. Jesus came to give us that life John 10:10 tells us:
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.
I believe that peace can be found by knowing what has been done for us. Knowing that Jesus died to save us, we did nothing to deserve this grace, but it has still been made available to us. We know that the things that have troubled us throughout our lives will no longer be able to follow us. The blind shall see, the deaf will hear, the cripple will walk. Those with cancer will be cancer free, those in pain will be pain-free. We will begin to forget what the sting of pain even feels like. Our troubles will have been wiped away and we will never have to worry again. Just as it says in Revelation 21:4:
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
As I said before please continue to pray for healing. We serve a God who answers prayer. But do not be discouraged if your prayer does not get answered in the time you expect. Find peace in the knowledge that we will all find our healed bodies in the Kingdom of Heaven.
